The People’s Forum[1], BreakThrough News[2], and 1804 Books[3] are all registered, radical organizations which share the same New York City address – 320 West 37th Street. This location serves as the headquarters for their operational activities and as a multifaceted hub for political education, cultural events, media production, and radical activist mobilization.
It is not coincidental that the three organizations operate under the same roof. This report investigates and encourages further scrutiny of these groups to understand what other common denominators they share, including funding sources and leadership.
The People’s Forum (TPF)
The People’s Forum is a 501(c)(3) far-left organization th serves as the primary operator of the physical building.[4] It acts as a “movement incubator,” providing space for political education, organizing, and cultural programming. TPF regularly hosts a diverse range of events, including lectures, panel discussions, and workshops on anti-imperialism, socialism, international solidarity, activist mobilization events, and contemporary geopolitical issues.[5] TPF also regularly collaborates on campaigns and protests with other radical groups, including the Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM),[6] ANSWER Coalition,[7] and CODEPINK.[8]
BreakThrough News (BTN)
BreakThrough News is also a 501(c)(3) nonprofit media organization, which operates from the same address as TPF.[9] While its primary output is videos on its social media accounts, its alleged physical presence at this hub suggests a close operational relationship with TPF. BTN’s reporting and commentary consistently align with the political messaging promoted by TPF, focusing on anti-imperialism and critical perspectives on American domestic and foreign policy.
1804 Books
1804 Books is a not-for-profit bookstore and press physically located “at The People’s Forum.”[10] As a “shop for socialist literature and revolutionary theory,” it serves as a resource for political education and movement building, directly supporting TPF’s mission. All proceeds from 1804 Books support TPF’s educational and cultural programming. 1804 Books’ events, such as its book launches and author discussions, are often integrated into TPF’s broader event schedule.

Shared Ideology
In addition to sharing an address, The People’s Forum, BreakThrough News, and 1804 Books share many of the same ideological stances, leadership, operation and funding sources, demonstrating that this may be a larger network that demands further scrutiny. The majority of those involved in these organizations’ leaderships are fiercely pro-China, anti-American, and anti-West.
The goals and content of all three organizations are consistently aligned. The People’s Forum’s focus on anti-capitalist, anti-imperialist, and internationalist perspectives, particularly its strong pro-Palestinian and anti-Zionist stance, is promoted outwards by BreakThrough News and 1804 Books. Their shared ideological framework often expresses a critical view of U.S. foreign policy and a sympathetic stance towards China.
Pro-China Agenda
All three organizations housed at 320 West 37th St systematically promote pro-China/Chinese Communist Party (CCP) narratives:
The People’s Forum (TPF)
TPF’s “CHINA75 Student Portal”, an online educational portal with political courses, portrays China’s Communist Revolution as a triumph over “Western imperialism” and a “century of humiliation,” culminating in the 1949 formation of the People’s Republic of China (PRC).[11] It promotes “China’s Path of Development – A Unique Model of Socialist Construction,” highlighting achievements like the elimination of absolute poverty and reduced dependence on foreign capital.[12] TPF actively challenges what it calls the “anti-Communist and Sinophobic narrative of China perpetuated by Western media.”
In 2021, TPF hosted an event with CODEPINK titled “China and the Left: A Socialist Forum,” explicitly aimed at countering “U.S.-led imperialist aggression on China” and “equivocating narratives about Chinese ‘authoritarianism’ and ‘hegemony.’”[13]
TPF leaders have stated as part of their YouTube content that there is “no reason to be at odds with China” and that the “United States has a lot to learn from China,” viewing China’s model as a “benefit to all the peoples of the world” and “pointing the way for the world that we want to see in the future.”[14]
BreakThrough News
BTN’s content frequently counters “Sinophobic propaganda” and “racist stereotypes” against China. The content also pushes a pro-CCP narrative, framing China as an emerging, positive power and force while portraying the U.S. as a declining force.
For example: A video titled “IShowspeed’s Visit to China Breaks the Propaganda Barrier” features a famous online streamer whose visit to China contradicts negative tropes about the country.[15]
BTN Host Rania Khalek has denied the persecution of Uyghurs in China and is described as an apologist for figures like Bashar al-Assad.[16]
BTN’s series “The China Report” and other videos often frame Chinese actions positively when discussing Chinese initiatives, BRICS countries uniting against U.S. trade wars, and U.S.-China relations.[17] For example, BTN published a video in May 2025 about the expansion of China’s Belt & Road Initiative in Latin America.[18] The video frames China’s global initiatives as positive and successful, while presenting U.S. trade actions as chaotic and ineffective.
1804 Books
1804’s catalog prominently features titles directly related to China’s revolutionary history and socialist development including “China’s Revolution and the Quest for a Socialist Future”[19] and “China’s Great Road.”[20]
“China’s Revolution and the Quest for a Socialist Future” defends the Communist Party of China’s (CPP) role and critiques narratives labeling China as capitalist.
“China’s Great Road” is described as cutting “through the anti-Communist and Sinophobic narrative of China perpetuated by Western media”.
The bookstore also sells “Red Star Over China,” a classic account of Chinese Communism and Mao Zedong.[21]
Notably, the bookstore is merging with Liberation News, the Party for Socialism and Liberation’s (PSL) publishing arm, indicating deep ties to this broader pro-China network.[22]
U.S. Race Relations and Anti-Police Rhetoric
A notable issue covered and promoted by these organizations is race relations in the United States, particularly among Black Americans. All three organizations have focused on issues like police violence, institutional racism, and white supremacy, especially following the death of George Floyd and President Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 Elections. The organizations have seemingly tried to publish content aimed at engaging Black American men more deeply into leftist politics.
The People’s Forum
In June 2020, The People’s Forum published a video with historian Geard Horne on his book titled, “The New Intellectuals: The Roots of Slavery, White Supremacy, Settler Colonialism, and Capitalism.”[23]
In June 2020, TPF hosted an event titled “Lessons for Rebellions” about historical lessons from past uprisings, tying them to the George Floyd protests.[24]
BreakThrough News
In June 2020, BTN published an interview with a Black American woman who lost her son to police violence and was attending a protest for George Floyd.[25]
In November 2020, BTN released an interview with Briahna Joy Gray, former Press Secretary for the Bernie Sanders 2020 campaign, titled “Black Voters Are Taken for Granted.”[26]
In June 2022, BTN released an interview promoting an organization called “Black Men Build,” which is dedicated to “bringing Black men to the left.”[27]
In June 2020, BTN published a video about the poor health conditions of prison inmates during the Coronavirus pandemic, framing it as “A Case of Institutional Racism in Prisons.”[28]
In April 2020, BTN aired a video report titled “Bipartisan Injustice: Racist Border Crisis & Police Killings,” arguing that both Democrats and Republicans share blame for racialized violence.[29]
1804 Books
1804 sells a multitude literature dealing with race relations in the US, including books on the philosophy of Malcolm X[30] and a bundle of writings from various “Black revolutionaries.”[31]
Anti-Americanism and Anti-Israel
The research indicates a strong emphasis on anti-American and anti-Israel activism across all three organizations, particularly evident in The People’s Forum’s event programming and the content produced by BreakThrough News and 1804 Books.
The People’s Forum
TPF events and programs often frame the U.S. as an “imperialist” power that needs to be destroyed. For example, in June 2023, TPF shared a post from one its events supporting Cuba, writing, “Above sympathy and aid, what the people of Cuba need is revolutionaries in the US, belly of the beast…”.[32]
TPF’s event calendar frequently hosts a “Volunteer Meeting for Palestine”[33] and coordinates with groups like the “Shut It Down 4 Palestine Coalition,” a coalition that has organized many of the anti-Israel protests in New York City in recent years.[34] TPF’s programming is consistently anti-Israel and frames the conflict through an “anti-imperialist” lens.[35] In December 2023, just two months after the Hamas-led October 7 massacre, TPF posted, “[g]oing into 2024 committed to the struggle to the liberation of Palestine and the fall of U.S. imperialism”.[36]
Along with the Palestinian Youth Movement, TPF was one of the organizers of the 2024 “People’s Conference for Palestine.” Ahead of the event, TPF published a post saying, “we are fighting for the total liberation of Palestine and the destruction of zionism and U.S. imperialism”.[37]
The “People’s Conference” included numerous endorsements of terror.[38] Wissam Rafeedie, a PFLP member, spoke virtually at the conference and defended Hamas’ October 7 massacre. Another speaker, Rabab Abdulhadi, who is a professor at San Francisco State University (SFSU), called on the audience to support the “Palestinian resistance,” naming groups like Hamas and the PIJ as examples.
BreakThrough News
BTN content includes a disproportionate amount of coverage on the war in Gaza between Israel and Hamas and frequently criticizes U.S. policy in the Middle East and American support for Israel. For example, BTN published a video in July 2024 titled “Why China is Mediating Among Palestinians, and Why the U.S. Hates It.”[39] The video attempts to position the CCP as a “global mediator” in the Middle East, while framing the U.S. and Israel as becoming increasingly isolated on the international stage.
In March 2025, BreakThrough Media (BTN’s corporate entity) co-produced the film “The Encampments,” a documentary glorifying the student encampments established across college campuses in the Spring of 2024.[40] A recent report by the Washington Free Beacon also claims that Singham’s network was involved in organizing the protests themselves which were not only anti-Israel, but anti-America and anti-democratic.[41]
The documentary not only glorifies the encampment protests (which at times turned violent and intimidating) but also features individuals and activists who have “defended or praised Hamas.”[42] Ben Becker, BreakThrough’s editor-in-chief and one of the film’s executive producers, justified Hamas’ “Al-Aqsa Flood” as an act of “national liberation against colonialism”.[43] Furthermore, one of the leaders of Columbia University Apartheid Divest (CUAD), Sueda Polat, who is featured throughout the documentary, said that “violence is the only path forward”.[44] CUAD is one of the anti-Israel groups being sued in the U.S. for allegedly “aiding and abetting Hamas.”[45] The official trailer of the film was posted to YouTube via the BreakThrough News channel.
1804 Books
The bookstore’s catalog includes titles such as “Palestine, Israel, and U.S. Empire,”[46] which directly engages with and promotes critical perspectives on Israel and its relationship with U.S. foreign policy. It has promoted books written by PFLP members including Wissam Rafeedie[47] and former PFLP spokesperson Ghassan Kanafani.[48] It has also created social media posts supporting convicted terrorists such as Walid Daqqa.[49]
The consistent and pronounced focus on anti-Israel activism by these organizations suggests a deliberate effort to weaken U.S. influence in a strategically vital region. Their attempt to frame the Israeli-Palestinian conflict within a broader anti-imperialist and anti-capitalist discourse suggests a deliberate effort to influence public opinion and mobilize activism against U.S. support for Israel and against vital American security and diplomatic interests.
Connection to the Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL)
PSL is a U.S.-based Marxist-Leninist organization that advocates revolutionary socialism and opposes U.S. capitalism and imperialism.[50] PSL has recently gained coverage after one of its members, Elias Rodriguez, was suspected of killing two Israeli Embassy employees at the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C. on May 21, 2025.[51]
PSL has since tried to distance themselves from Rodriguez, but in a now-removed 2017 article from PSL’s “Liberation Website,”[52] Rodriguez is described as a participant in a Chicago rally protesting the killing of Laquan McDonald and quoted as a representative of PSL. The rally was led by People’s Congress of Resistance, ANSWER Coalition Chicago, and Black Lives Matter Women of Faith. As mentioned above, 1804 books is also merging with Liberation News, PSL’s publishing arm.[53]
Key PSL members also hold central positions in BTN and other organizations that partner with The People’s Forum:

Shared Funder – Neville Roy Singham
The most significant factor connecting TPF, BTN, and 1804 Books, besides their physical space, is their funding source. All three organizations receive significant funding from Neville Roy Singham, an American businessman of Sri Lankan and Jamaican heritage who is based in Shanghai and has numerous reported ties to Chinese Communist Party officials. Singham has been photographed attending meetings with officials from the CCP and at CCP propaganda forums.[58]
Singham’s network includes entities such as:
Tricontinental Institute for Social Research: A Marxist think-tank created by the Marxist historian Vijay Prashad.[59] Its work centers on bringing together leftist movements and intellectual institutions, as well as amplifying their messages.[60]
Dongsheng News: A media collective that reports on Chinese politics and society in multiple languages including English.[61]
The Justice and Education Fund: A policy organization focused on wealth redistribution and providing funding for educational initiatives in Latin America, Africa, and the United States.[62]
CODEPINK: A women-led anti-war organization that has received substantial funding from entities linked to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).[63] Singham’s spouse, Jodie Evans, is the co-founder of the organization. The union between Singham and Evans appears to have fueled CODEPINK’s shift from anti-China to pro-China messaging.[64] CODEPINK is also critical of U.S. domestic and foreign policy, especially its support of Israel.
In 2022, The People’s Forum’s received approximately $4 million in contributions and grants, and assets of $18.5 million.[65] This indicates significant financial backing, with Singham and Evans identified as primary funders since 2017.[66] BreakThrough Media Inc. also received notable grants from “The Justice and Education Fund,” directly linking it to Singham’s financial networks.[67]
Shared Operations
1804 Books explicitly states that it is a not-for-profit bookstore at The People’s Forum[68] and that all proceeds directly support TPF’s educational and cultural programming, demonstrating clear financial and operational integration. BTN, 1804 Books, and The People’s Forum frequently collaborate on events and media content that promote anti-U.S., anti-Western, and anti-Israel narratives. 1804 Books also publishes literature by individuals affiliated with BTN and TPF, further proving the interconnectedness of the three organizations. For example:
TPF and 1804 Books co-hosted a book launch for Belgian leftist Peter Mertens, moderated by Eugene Puryear of TPF.[69]
BTN regularly features Layan Fuleihan in video reports, such as “How One Year of Global Protests for Palestine Changed the World”[70] and, “Sesismic Shift: Protests for Palestine Shake Biden & Ruling Class w/ Layan Fuleihan.”[71] These reports frame the global anti-Israel movement as a strong opposition force to the United States.
1804 Books published Puryear’s book “The Black Belt Thesis: A Reader,”[72] and TPF hosted a promotional event for it.[73] 1804 Books published an English edition of a text written by former PFLP spokesperson Ghassan Kanafani, with a foreword by Fuleihan.[74]
Shared Leadership
Claudia De la Cruz
De la Cruz served as Co-Executive Director of The People’s Forum until recently, leaving the position in January 2025.[75] Notably, she was also listed as the Secretary and a Director of BreakThrough BT Media Inc. (the legal entity for Breakthrough News) until December 2023.[76]De la Cruz was also the Party for Socialism and Liberation’s nominee for President of the United States in the 2024 elections.[77] She has regularly glorified Hamas terrorism and equated Israel to Nazi Germany. On October 7, 2023, she celebrated the Hamas attack in an Instagram post.[78] She also posted a photo of herself with PFLP terrorist Leila Khaled, calling it an “honor” to share space with Khaled.[79]
Manolo De Los Santos
De Los Santos is Co-Executive Director of The People’s Forum, and a researcher at the Tricontinental Institute for Social Research, a key entity within the broader network associated with Neville Roy Singham which funds these organizations.[80]
Kate Gonzales
Gonzales is the Editorial Coordinator for 1804 Books who is also listed as a staff member of The People’s Forum[84] which further cements the interconnectedness between the organizations which share the same headquarters.
Conclusion
In summary, the connections between The People’s Forum, Breakthrough News, and 1804 Books are not purely coincidental; they are significant and characterized by shared physical space, ideology, funding, leadership, and connections. This seems to be an intentional network aimed at implementing radical political and social changes in the United States based on a radical ideology that empathizes with China and other extremist regimes, while demonizing the United States and its allies.
